ABOUT the USZYNSKI's

The information found here was extracted from a letter handwritten by a niece of Grandma Chaneski's who was the daughter of Helen Uszynski Rapacki. I will do my best to relate the information found in this letter, and in many cases, give my best interpretation of what is written.
This letter was dated 4/18/89:

1) Son Frank Uszynski died in his 20's. He often went to Mt. Holyoke dances and once walked to Northampton in the bitter cold and died shortly thereafter of pneumonia.
2) Daughter Julia Uszynski Sawicka had 3 children, Walter, Julia & Frank- all deceased.
3) Son Benny Uszynski owned a grocery store and had children, Ted & Gertrude are deceased, Cecelia & Theodore were living (as of 1989).
4) Chester Uszynski had broke is back at work lifting looms. His 5 children: Joe(deceased), Lilian Langlois, Bernard, Blanche and (another)girl - all living as of 1989.
5) Son Robie Uszynski was a barber and had 2 children, Wanda(deceased) and Robie(unknown).
6) Catherine Uszynski Chaneski had 6 children and their information is detailed in much of this website.
7) Helen Uszynski Rapacki had 4 children, Pauline(deceased), Helen(the source of this information as of 1989), Julia(deceased) and Albina(deceased).
8)Joe Uszynski was shell shocked in World War 1, had 3 children: (girl), Joe & Frank- all living as of 1989

Grandpa Uszynski was a musician, played piano and wrote music. He wasn't allowed to teach music in Russia, so he & oldest son Frank came to Northampton Mass. and the elder Uszynski got a job playing the organ in a Polish church.. St. Mary's in Northampton. Then he sent for Grandma Uszynski and the rest(6) of the children. It appears that the youngest, Joe was born in America. All the children grew up in a duplex house possibly on a corner of William Street. Grandpa Uszynski bought a large cemetary plot. Grandma Uszynski used to have large family gatherings in her back yard.
